This 2015 MDGs End-point Report reviews Nigeria’s implementation of the MDGs since inception. As an ‘end-point report,’ it is significant in many respects including, primarily, the overview that it provides of Nigeria’s journey in the implementation of MDGs. Secondly, it is Nigeria’s MDGs historic end-point assessment document that gives a holistic audit of, and verdict on, MDGs planning, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation experience. Thirdly and most importantly, it serves as a bridge between Nigeria’s MDGs era and the post-MDGs development framework also now known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). And lastly, as a transitional document, this report will serve as a useful benchmark document for comparing progress made in the course of the implementation of the SDGs. The report shows that Nigeria has made appreciable progress in the attainment of MDGs in the last 14 years, particularly, in the area of universal primary education enrolment; achieving gender parity in education; reducing the spread of HIV and AIDS; reducing maternal death as well as halving the percentage of people living in absolute hunger for which it received a recognition from the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). Yet, in spite of such appreciable progress, some of the targets could not be met due to challenges in the areas of poverty, insecurity, social inequality, absence of inclusive growth and youth unemployment. It thus means that the MDGs implementation in Nigeria remains an unfinished business that needs to be rolled over to the successor SDG framework.en_US
